- turn off the water ASAP

- turn off all taps and any water-using appliances
- locate your water meter and take a reading
- wait for a minute and if you the water meter dials are still turning, chances are you have a leak

So repeat the steps above and this time wait for an hour before reading the meter again. If the dials have moved, you have a water leak. You’ve just become a leak location detective!
