The DCM Plumbing and Drainage story began in 1984 in the small English town of Bridport, famous for the aquatic dinosaur remains found in its sandstone cliffs.
DCM founder, Dean, started his plumbing apprenticeship at aged 16 and four years later, proudly became a fully qualified plumber and registered Corgi gas engineer.
Moving on to the bright lights of London, Dean continued honing his plumbing skills by working on a huge variety of jobs in the maintenance and commercial sectors.
Dean and his wife Gill got their first taste of Aussie life on their honeymoon in 1994 where they spent a month in Sydney, Manly, Canberra & Hamilton Island.
After having their first baby, Sam, they moved back to family friendly Dorset, England. Dean began working exclusively on new home plumbing and gas for a local company, further expanding his plumbing knowledge and expertise.
After having their second child, Leah, in 2000, Dean and Gill decided it was time to move halfway around the world to sunny Australia.
One of their best friends lived on the Gold Coast and convinced Dean and Gill this was the best place to bring up a young family, and two years later they made it happen… And what a place it is!
After waiting for what felt like an eternity for Dean’s tools to arrive on a shipping container from the UK, Dean started work for a local plumber on boutique homes in Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove which gave him a lot of learnings around the unique Gold Coast climate and environment. Yes, snakes can get in your toilet!
In 2005, Dean finally went out on his own working for local Gold Coast builders carrying out all the plumbing necessary for new homes. He took on his first apprentice and DCM Plumbing was born!
Only two years later, the GFC (Global Financial Crisis) hit and new home building came to a grinding halt on the Gold Coast. So, Dean diversified DCM Plumbing into maintenance plumbing for real estate agents.
With the help of Gill, he created systems and processes to make the life of the property managers much less stressful. By providing a seamless plumbing service, property managers now knew once their work order had been sent that their tenants’ issues would be resolved quickly without the need for constant follow ups.
Over the next decade, DCM Plumbing grew from real estate services to incorporate strata, as well as private customers and boutique builders. DCM also began offering 24 hour service for emergency repairs. During this time the team grew to five plumbers, a dedicated scheduler in the office, as well as Dean and Gill as the driving force constantly continuing to develop the business.
The constant dedication to improvement, efficiency and listening to their customers, saw Dean and Gill buy DCM Plumbing’s first commercial premises in Burleigh, after renting premises in Varsity Lakes for several years.
Together, Dean and Gill have continued to build DCM Plumbing by focusing on their customers needs and driving excellence in customer service.
Dean and Gill live in Burleigh Waters and still regularly visit their favourite place in Australia, Hamilton Island. This is where they honeymooned nearly 30 years ago and where their daughter Leah now lives and works.
Their son, Sam, has recently qualified as an electrician and is a proud boat owner and avid fisherman loving life on the Gold Coast!
Family has always been so important to Dean and Gill and they bring their values into the business, treating their employees and customers with respect, honesty and kindness.
